Noise Exposure Assessment & Hearing Conservation

DOSH-aligned workplace noise mapping, audiometric testing coordination, and hearing conservation programme design under the Noise Exposure Regulations 2019 [P.U. (A) 60/2019].

The 82 dB(A) Action Level

Malaysia lowered the action trigger for noise assessment in 2019. Exceeding 82 dB(A) mandates a registered Noise Risk Assessor, a Hearing Conservation Programme, and annual audiometric testing. The legal exposure limit (NEL) is 85 dB(A).

> 82 dB(A)

Excessive noise trigger. Employer must identify exposure, appoint a registered NRA, and establish a Hearing Conservation Programme.

> 85 dB(A)

Noise Exposure Limit (NEL). Must not be exceeded. Requires engineering controls, administrative controls, and mandatory annual audiometric testing.

> 115 dB(A)

Maximum sound pressure level at any time. Immediate hearing protection zone designation and strict control measures required.

> 140 dB(C)

Peak sound pressure level limit. Exposure at this level can cause instantaneous acoustic trauma and permanent hearing damage.

What We Provide

Workplace Noise Mapping

  • Identification of noise sources and exposure zones
  • Personal noise dosimetry for high-risk roles
  • Area sound level mapping with IEC-compliant meters
  • Report preparation for DOSH submission

Hearing Conservation Programme (HCP)

  • Programme design tailored to your facility
  • Hearing Conservation Administrator (HCA) appointment guidance
  • Personal hearing protector selection and training
  • Annual refresher training modules

Audiometric Testing Coordination

  • Referral to DOSH-approved testing centres
  • Baseline testing within 3 months of exposure
  • Annual testing schedule management
  • Record-keeping for 30 years (assessment) and employment + 5 years (audiometric)
