CIDB + DOSH Critical

Working at Height (WAH) Safety Training — Fall Prevention

Fall arrest, full-body harness competency, and MEWP safety. The leading cause of construction fatalities in Malaysia. On-site delivery with real equipment.

Do You Need WAH Training?

Falls from height remain the leading cause of death and serious injury on Malaysian construction sites. The CIDB and DOSH require specific WAH competency for workers operating above 2 metres. Many sites rely on generic inductions that do not address the actual fall hazards of the specific structure being built.

The Stakes

Fatality & Prosecution Risk

A single fatal fall triggers immediate CIDB and DOSH investigations, potential project suspension, criminal charges under the OSH (Amendment) Act 2022, and massive insurance premium increases.

Permanent Disability

Survivors of falls from height often face permanent disability. The human and financial cost to workers and their families is devastating and entirely preventable with proper training and equipment.

Suspension Trauma

A worker caught by their harness can suffer suspension trauma within 15 minutes. Without a rescue plan, a survivable fall becomes a fatal event. Every WAH programme must include rescue planning.

Hazard Profile

Unprotected Edges

Open floor edges, roof perimeters, and shafts without guardrails or toe boards.

Improper Harness Use

Workers wearing harnesses incorrectly — not attached to an anchor point, or using damaged/webbing-compromised equipment.

Defective MEWP Operations

Mobile Elevated Work Platforms operated by untrained personnel, or used on unstable ground without outriggers.

Inadequate Rescue Plans

Fall arrest systems deployed without a rescue plan. A suspended worker can suffer suspension trauma within 15 minutes.

Warning Signs

Your project involves work above 2 metres — scaffolding, roofing, or facade installation
You have experienced a near-miss or actual fall incident on site
Your site safety officer has identified unprotected edges during daily hazard walks
Subcontractor crews arrive without WAH competency certificates
You are bidding for a project that requires WAH-specific safety documentation
Your insurance underwriter has requested proof of WAH training for renewal

Our Process

Step 01

Site Hazard Walk

We identify all fall hazards specific to your structure — edges, openings, ladder access points, and scaffold tie-back requirements.

Step 02

Competency Training

Classroom theory covering fall physics, harness anatomy, anchor point selection, and MEWP safe operation — followed by hands-on practical assessment.

Step 03

Equipment Inspection

We inspect your existing fall arrest equipment for defects, expiry dates, and compliance with MS standards. Damaged equipment is tagged and removed.

Step 04

Rescue Plan Drafting

A written rescue plan specific to your site — who responds, what equipment is used, and how a suspended worker is recovered within 15 minutes.

Step 05

Competency Certification

Successful candidates receive WAH competency certificates recognised by CIDB and DOSH. We maintain a training register for inspection.

Why Other Approaches Fail

Generic "Working at Height" videos shown in a hotel conference room do not prepare workers for the specific edges, anchors, and rescue challenges of YOUR site. Theory without hands-on practice with real harnesses and real anchor points creates false confidence — and real fatalities.

Risk-Based Scheduling

Low-Moderate Risk

Low-rise residential with stable crews — annual refresher sufficient if no incidents or equipment changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does WAH training take?
The standard programme is 2 days — Day 1 theory, Day 2 hands-on practical with harnesses, anchors, and MEWP operation. On-site delivery minimises downtime.
Do workers need a medical check before WAH training?
While not mandatory for training, workers with heart conditions, epilepsy, or severe vertigo should not perform WAH duties. We recommend a basic fitness assessment.
Can you train on our active construction site?
Yes. We prefer on-site delivery using your actual structures, anchors, and equipment. This makes the training immediately applicable and more memorable.
What happens if a worker fails the practical assessment?
We provide additional supervised practice and re-assessment at no extra charge. Workers who cannot safely perform the required tasks will not be certified.
Can WAH training be claimed under HRD Corp?
Training is delivered by an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer (ID: 62976). Whether it can be claimed against your levy depends on your own HRD Corp registration, active balance, and programme alignment — we will confirm eligibility before you commit. We assist with e-TRiS grant applications for batch training.
What is suspension trauma?
When a worker falls and is caught by their harness, blood pools in the legs. Without rescue within 15 minutes, the worker can lose consciousness or suffer kidney damage. Every WAH programme includes rescue planning.
